Fire on the Ice

14 Sep

As this Winfly begins, it wouldn’t be complete without some sort of ‘incident.’   This year, it wasn’t a medical evacuation or a person getting run over by a vehicle, it was a fire.

One of our Fuel Department trucks caught on fire as it was outside of town.  I am not sure the exact cause of such fire, but this news made the town scuttlebutt in a matter of minutes.

In addition to the good smack and fun stories this sparked (nice pun, huh?), a plethora of photos were shared around the station.

A nice way to keep warm down here...

The fire department very hard at work. That purple stuff is what they use down here to put out certain fires. Pretty cool!

Fortunately, no one was hurt in this incident.  In fact, the Fuels departments decided to have a wake for their recently departed.   (Any excuse for a party!).  There was a nice eulogy and a member of the clergy provided some comforting thoughts.   Attendees dressed in black and some even had veils.   Some highlights of the wake included the procession of the pallbearers bringing in the charred door as well as an angel that decended from above to take that charred door to it’s final resting place.

One of the more humorous artifacts that stemmed from this incident was a Craig’s List posting:
